Gary Dean Hyatt, 61, of Midland, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2008 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 3:00pm at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Midland with Rev. Terry Easley, officiating.He was born on December 22, 1947 in Karnes County, Texas to Jess and Theola Hyatt. Gary grew up in several small towns south of San Antonio. He graduated from Karnes City High School in 1966. Gary was senior class vice president, in the National Honor Society, Explorer Scouts, Block "K" president and voted best dancer. Gary played football and was football captain, 3-year letterman, and 3-year All District. Gary spent two years at Texas Tech and then joined the US Air Force. After 4 years of service to his country, he returned to college at the University of Texas in Austin, where he graduated with an Engineering degree. He worked for Chevron as an engineer for 26 years, then took early retirement. His "early" retirement lasted one weekend and he began work for Kenzel May in a private engineering firm that later became EE Partners, Inc. Until his illness progressed, he continued to work at EE Partner's and in this last year became more of a consultant.Gary had a passion of most sports, but he loved golf and soccer the most. He began as a soccer coach when his son Jared was 4 years old, then switched to girls coaching when his daughter Cara was four. He continued coaching girls for approximately 15 years and was lucky enough to see two of his teams continue to high school soccer and soccer scholarships for their college education. He volunteered for Junior Achievement and math tutoring in the local school system. Gary gave of himself by helping his neighbors and friends build fences, mowing or cutting trees. He loved to be active and exercise and he was a long time jogger and exercise was a pleasure instead of a burden.Survivors include his wife Marilyn Hyatt of Midland; a daughter Rhonda Loftin and husband James and their children Ashley and Chris of Vidor; a son, Bryan Hyatt of Phoenix, Arizona; a son Jared Hyatt and wife Kayce and their daughter Sydney of Midland; a daughter, Cara Hyatt of Odessa; a daughter, Danna Norris and husband Layton and their children, Kaylee, Stormi, Lindsey and Colby of Midland; a son Steve Feagan and wife Marisa and their daughter Kenzie of San Angelo; a brother, Jess Hyatt III of Kenedy; a brother Marvin Hyatt and wife Rose of Lubbock; and a sister, Ruby Retzloff and husband Steven of Pflugerville. Gary was lucky enough to be loved by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
