Fumiko Okada Slayter, 87 of Midland, and wife of the Rev. Dr. Malcom F. Slayter, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2018. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church Anglican Midland on Thursday, August 23, 2018. Following services, the family will gather at St. Nicholas’ Episcopal Church for interment.Fumiko was born February 28, 1931 in Saitama-Ken Prefecture, Japan to Tsunekichi and Kano Okada. Fumiko loved to love on people, beginning with her family. She lived her life supporting her family and serving others in the churches where her husband was a member of the clergy. Some of the greatest stories her children share are memories of her cooking, knitting, baking, gardening and painting where she intentionally made their house a loving home. She also experienced many cultures and traveled throughout the world. Throughout her career she served in multiple roles that allowed her to use her gift of service to influence others. Fumiko enjoyed giving back and could be found volunteering wherever she was planted including the art department and supervising in the girls’ dormitory at Brent School in the Philippines, Meals on Wheels, and preparing boxes for the food bank. One of her greatest joys was accompanying her husband on Sunday visits to parishes within the Diocese of Northwest Texas including Monahans, Kermit, Andrews, and Sweetwater. While her husband served as a clergyman to these parishes, Fumiko worked behind the scenes and committed her time and energy to the congregations of these various communities. Her life was a living example what it means to have a servant heart beginning with her family, which she devoted her life to serving.Fumiko is survived by her husband, Rev. Dr. Malcom F. Slayter, and her four children, Bruce Slayter of Florida, Nancy Slayter of Midland, Jim and wife Nelda Slayter of Leander, and Mike Slayter of Midland. She is also survived by eight grandchildren including: Claire Slayter of Chicago, Cristian Albo and Ashley Molinar of Midland, Andrew Albo of Arkansas, Adrienne Desmarais and husband Sylvian of Canada, Theresa and Jameson Slayter of Leander, and Nathan Slayter of San Angelo. Fumiko also was a great grandparent to Sophia Molinar, Max Pulliam, Sienna Molinar and Jordyn Molinar, and Kenya and Océane Desmarais. She is also survived by her nephew Yukio Okada and wife Teruko and family, niece Harumi Shimizu and family all of Hanno, Japan. All of these she loved and touched deeply. The family would like to express their immense gratitude towards her caregivers over the years including: Marlene Mendez, Alexandria Guevara, Tracy Arciaga, Alicia Munoz, Irene Ramirez, Edelmira Pando, Hellen Brown, and the late Irma Rodriguez. In addition, they would like to thank Linda Williams RN, the community of Manor Park, Dr. PK Patel, Dr. Sowders, Silver & Linda’s Framery & Gallery, Dr. M.
