Fred Phillips, 84, passed peacefully from this earth on Friday, November 30, 2012 and was welcomed home in the loving arms of his Lord. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, December 3, 2012 at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.Fred Phillips was born July 17, 1928 to Edgar and Virgie Phillips in Howard County. He attended Howard County schools and graduated from Big Spring High School. He graduated from Howard County Junior College, attended McMurry, and received a BBA from West Texas College in 1951. He served in the Korean War before returning to Big Spring to farm.Fred married Dora Yater, his wife of 50 years, on August 25, 1955. They began their life together in Knott, Texas and later Big Spring.Fred was a devout Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church. He loved supporting and going to church.Through many years of farming, Mr. Phillips accumulated land in Martin and Howard counties. He loved the process of growing cotton. He was selected Agricultural Producer of the Year in 1993 as was his father earlier and his son later.Fred enjoyed life. Not only did he love work, but he found pleasure in family and friends. He loved his 42 bunch on Saturday night, his fishing trips to Lake Mathis, family trips to the Lake LBJ in the summer, and the Dallas Cowboys.Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife, Dora; his parents, Edgar and Virgie; and his sister, Dot Yater.He is survived by his children Marcus and wife, Genia of Big Spring; Ilene Phillips of Coppell, Texas; granddaughter Brandie Phillips; step-grandson Andy Neel and his daughter Tatum, all of Big Spring.Mr. Phillips has 3 surviving siblings, Frances Ringener of Big Spring; Edgar Allan Phillips and wife, Amy of Granbury; and Sandra Beard and husband, Bubba of Granbury.Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.The family wishes to thank Jovita Jimenez, Irene Hinojosa, Philip Ringener, Alex Hinojosa, Kay Graham, Mary Sanchez and Delia Ybarra for their caretaking.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Home Hospice 111 E. 7th St., Suite A, Big Spring, Texas 79720 or to First Baptist Church, 705 W.
