Fred Carstensen, Jr., 78, of Big Spring, died on Friday, August 1, 2008, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel, Big Spring, with Rev. John Bill Hedrick, pastor of Graham Chapel in Post, officiating. Interment will follow at Westbrook Cemetery, Westbrook.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.He was born on July 19, 1930, in the Brown Community in Howard County, Texas and married Wanda Jackson on July 2, 1960 in Big Spring, Texas. She preceded him in death on May 15, 1996.Fred was a lifelong resident of this area. He started working for the Flower Grove ISD in 1973 and retired as custodian at Klondike ISD in 1992 after 21 years. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 13 1/2 years and attained the rank of corporal.Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Kristi Carstensen of Lockney; his daughter, Kelli Carstensen of Big Spring; two granddaughters, Sarah Carstensen and Karis Carstensen both of Lockney; four sisters, Ruby McCarty of Sanger, Nellie Van Den Biggelaar and Myrtle Sparks all of Sanger and Lucille Farrington of Big Spring; three brothers, Tommy Carstensen of Garden City, Pat Carstensen of Knott and Arthur Carstensen of Odessa; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.He was also preceded in death by his parents, Fred, Sr. and Naoma Carstensen; and two brothers, Andy and C. J. Carstensen. The family suggests memorials be made to Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home, 1809 N.
