Deon was a wonderful man; a great positive influence to all he interacted. I knew him for more than 10 years, primarily as a Flight Instructor and family friend. He was extremely competent as a pilot, and a superior instructor. Deon had the rare skill of being able to communicate to the student pilot (me and/or my brother) so that we could understand the current situation in flight, and learn what to do next in the flight. This was especially important when flight training emergency procedures and recovery from simulated emergencies. Deon had such a great air of confidence and competence about him---a very enviable trait for the students to learn what to do when Deon isn't there.... And now we have learned what an effective teacher he was...he will fly with us always. He loved life, loved to fly, and loved to teach others.Such a positive attitude and encouraging demeanor--- Deon will be missed, and we are very thankful he was a part of our lives.

Dianna,My sincerest condolences on your loss. I know you have trust in the Lord. I only knew Deon through the dance lessons we had, but he seemed like a really nice guy and I know you will miss him terribly. Sincerely, Curtis

I've known Deon for about a year and found him to be the man I hope my children become. He was a do-er, friendly, passionate about God, his family and his country, and a real lover of the outdoors. He passed in the high country doing what he loved, working on his dream. Deon had a sign in his cabin that said Set my feet on higher ground. I have no doubt that's exactly where they are. God bless you, Deon.

You didn’t need to know Deon for long to know that his passions were : God, family, country, followed closely by the outdoors and especially mountain living. Deon was a man that you could always count on to lend a hand, share a story, and to be quick with a kind word. He was the sort of person who was easy to visit with and I appreciate that I was able to share friendship with him. One of my favorite stories of Deon was when he found an elk calf bound up in barbed wire and we carefully untangled it and placed it carefully in the pasture. You can tell a lot about a man based on the way he treats others as well as the rest of God’s creatures. He worried about that calf until the herd came back for it. Deon was a good man, and I pray that God keeps him close.

I did not know Deon long, but was always impressed by his Bible knowledge and the application of his Bible knowledge and personal experience to our Sunday School lesson discussion. I was impressed by his knowledge and assurance of who he is in Christ, secure in his own skin and in the things in which he was active, the works into which God had led him.
