She moved to Alamogordo at the age of 10 and graduated from Alamogordo High School. Frances could “call the hogs” with pride and received a degree in Business from the University of Arkansas in 1948. Fred B. Evans took her hand in marriage December 28, 1950, and they continued their adventure for more than 51 years.Frances was a beautiful, gracious lady. Her outward honors included Commerce Queen at the University of Arkansas, Sun Bowl Princess, and Mrs. Alamogordo but more importantly she loved the Lord. She was a life-long member of the Cuba Ave. Church of Christ where she taught 4th grade Bible class for many years and participated in numerous ladies activities.Mrs. Evans loved New Mexico and particularly Alamogordo. She served with many civic organizations from PTA president to United Federation of Women’s Clubs local and state president. Frances loved to tell stories of growing up in small town Alamogordo and became a guest speaker at many civic and church organizations. This speech took written form and is available at the Otero County Museum.Frances was a true homemaker; she took pride in her home and family, and excelled in sewing and cooking. The Christmas gingerbread waffles are now being enjoyed by the fifth generation.Frances and her husband Fred were blessed to travel the United States and Canada.
