Floyd L Wheeler died on October 30th, on his 93rd birthday. He was born in Olney, Oklahoma, to William H. and Pearl (Jones) Wheeler, on October 30, 1919 (his twin Lloyd, died at the age of 8 years). Floyd was raised in Coalgate, Oklahoma. He married his wife of 66 years, Rita Nutter in Big Lake, Texas on August 29, 1946. They had two children, son F. Larry Wheeler of Abilene, Texas, and the late Michele Wheeler.He enlisted in the Navy from 1940 to 1946. When World War II began, he was in Iceland. His ship returned to Norfolk, Virginia to get larger guns for his battleship, the U.S.S. Idaho. Floyd went to the Pacific Ocean by way of the Panama Canal. Returning to the States after the war ended, he was employed by Amerada Petroleum (now Hess), in Big Lake. This company transferred him to Midland in 1953. In 1971, he later was employed as a Production Superintendent for BHP (now bhp billiton). He retired in 1986.He loved to hunt, fish, and go boating with his family. He was a member and President of the Southside Lions Club and Deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church.Floyd is survived by his wife, Rita; his son, F. Larry Wheeler of Abilene, Texas; his granddaughter, Mindy (Clarke) Flowers of Lubbock, Texas; his grandson, Andrew of Abilene, Texas; his great grandchildren, Jake, Ellen, and Grady all of Lubbock; his brother-in-law, Warren Nutter (Martha) of Carthage, Texas; his sister, Berniece Stephenson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Nutter; a niece, Cheryl Christensen (Doug); a nephew, Harry Nutter; special friend, Patricia Wilkerson of Ft. Worth; and numerous other nieces and nephews.A special Thank you to Dr. Greg Bartha, Dr. and Mrs James and Sharon Humphreys, and the nurses on the 4th floor (West) at Midland Memorial Hospital, and Manor Park and Staff.Memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2800 W.
