Floyd Bondy, Jr.Floyd Frank Bondy, Jr. passed away in Midland, Texas on October 22, 2006. His gentle spirit blessed this world for 85 years.Floyd was devoted to his wife, Dorothy. They met at Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, where they married in 1942. He was a loving, patient and kind father to his children Neal Bondy and his wife Susan of Southlake, Glenda Rogers and her husband Charles of Kyle, and Mark Bondy and his wife Nancy of Midland. Floyd was lovingly known to his six grandchildren and one great-grandson as Greendaddy?. He was admired by them for his strength, courage and calmness. He has one brother, Elmer Bondy of Clear Lake City, and was preceded in death by his parents.Floyd was born in Tallulah, Louisiana and was proud of his Cajun roots. He played football in high school and college, and his love of sports carried through his entire life. He served the United States as a Staff Sergeant in World War II in Company C, 275th Infantry Division in France, where he was wounded in action. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the European Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Upon his return home, he went to work for Sinclair Oil Company at their Houston Refinery. Forty-six years later, after moves to Fort Worth, Atlanta and Chicago, he retired as the Manager of Compounding and Packaging from the same refinery, which was then owned by ARCO.Floyd and Dorothy moved to Midland from Houston in 2002. They were world travelers and in their later years found it difficult to find a destination where they had not already visited. Their favorite place to travel was Africa, where they loved watching the wildlife together. They attended Christ Church Midland and have been blessed by the fellowship and kindness they found in that body of Christ.A service celebrating Floyds life has been scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at First United Methodist Church, 305 N.
