Fern Britton

Fern Britton, age 84, passed from this life on November 10, 2012 in Midland. She was born in Waverly, KS on May 13, 1928 and lived in St John, KS, Springfield, MO and San Diego, CA before moving to Texas in 1944. In June 1945 she married Johnny W. Britton. While residing in Stanton, Fern worked for the Martin County Tax Office and held the position of Administrator at the Stanton Care Center. In 1963 they left Stanton and moved to Portales, NM to become house parents. They also served as house parents in Chino, CA. Fern also served in the foster grandparent program in Midland. She served as a Girl Scout leader and taught Bible class to children and ladies for many years. Ferns first and foremost love was God and His people. She was always concerned about whether or not family and friends were Christians. Helping Carolyn with Trade Days was another event that brought joy to Fern.She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Johnny Britton; son, Johnny Wendell Britton; her parents; and two sisters. Survivors include her sons, Terry Britton and wife Debbie, and Keith Williamson and wife Christine; daughters, Carolyn Riley and husband Ron and Susan Warrick and husband Randy. Survivors also include one sister, Barbara Watts; one brother, Bill Oden; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Westside Church of Christ in Midland. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton.The family requests that memorials are directed to the We Care Ministries MME Fund (Missionary Fund), 520 N Market St., Cordell, OK 73632.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
