Evan Ross Johansen, 61, of Midland, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on March 5, 2024.

Evan was born on May 1, 1962, in Washington, DC to Wilford “Bud” Johansen and Patricia Johansen. He grew up in Palas Verdes, California and graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. In 1997, Evan was presented with an opportunity with Redstone Golf Management that allowed him to use his education and hospitality experience along with his passion for golf. This was the beginning of a 27-year-long career in the golf management business. Evan was instrumental in growing Redstone Golf Management from the ground up to a portfolio of four owned clubs and six managed clubs. For the past five years, Evan was honored and privileged to work as the General Manager/COO of Midland Country Club. Evan was extremely passionate about Midland Country Club, its Members and Staff.

As much as Evan loved his career, his true love was for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and son. Nothing was more fulfilling to Evan than watching his children grow into the incredible adults they are today. Evan’s huge heart, compassion, leadership, quick wit, sense of humor, and sports acumen will be missed by those who love him.

Evan is survived by his wife, Denise; son, Ross; daughter, Charlotte and her fiancé, Harrison Duncan; mother, Patricia; brother, Eric; mother-in-law, Mitzi Gass; and brother-in-law, John Gass. Evan was preceded in death by his father.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Midland Country Club.

The Johansen Family would like to express their tremendous gratitude to the Midland Country Club President, Board, Membership and Management Team for their incredible and unwavering support during this very difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Tee – West Texas or First Tee – Greater Houston.

Just so heartbreaking. Evan was always kind, thoughtful and caring, with a wonderful sense of humor. Treated everyone with respect. John and I send our thoughts and prayers to Denise, Ross and Charlotte, and the entire Johansen family. We were blessed to have worked with Evan at Redstone and to be able to call him our friend.

I was so sorry to hear of Evan’s passing. I had the privilege of working at Redstone when Evan headed up Redstone Golf Management. He was a true gentleman and was highly respected by all. My deepest condolences to his family upon his sudden passing.

Deepest sympathy and prayers to the Johansen family. I had the honor of working with Evan at Redstone, 7 Shell Houston Opens, and will always remember wrap up day. Evan always had something for me. A moment to remember all of the successes from that particular year's tournament. I still have them all. I ran into Evan In expectantly about 2 weeks ago while in Midland. It was a great surprise. We shared a few laughs from the tournament days. Great leader taken way too early and I'm sorry for that.

I began my career with Redstone Companies in 1998. Evan was always a delight in our work relationship and also to share a good laugh with throughout the years. As Assistant to David Shindeldecker my involvement with Evan in the golf side of the business was extensive and, as everyone else in the company that knew and loved him, I feel so privileged to have worked with him. My sincere sympathies to his family.

I had the privilege of working with Evan for the past 5+ years. He was compassionate, caring, driven, and always striving for the best. He was a brilliant strategist who truly had the bigger picture in mind without sacrificing the service to the members and staff. Always on the move, he racked up miles every day checking on things and you could hear him coming! Loved it when he cracked himself up! Truly dedicated to his profession and his family. He will sorely be missed.
