Eva Willene Humphrey passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2025, at the age of 91 in Big Spring, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Trent Thrasher of 14th and Main Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the funeral home.
Willene was born on February 28, 1934, in Peniel (Greenville), Texas to William Albert Duncan and Vivian Mae Duncan. She married Carlos Neal Humphrey June 3, 1954, in Greenville, Texas. After graduating from high school in 1951 she attended East Texas State at Commerce where she received a master’s degree in education. Willene taught typing and other subjects at Big Spring High School for 30 years. Willene was a faithful member of the 14th and Main Church of Christ. She made 14 trips to do mission work in Austria, Poland and Scotland. She enjoyed traveling in their motor home to assist the Sojourner’s in helping churches, children’s homes and others. For leisure time Willene enjoyed playing bridge, hand foot, and supporting the Arts by attending plays, musicals and concerts with her friends.
She was a member of the National Education Association, Texas State Teachers Association and member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and American Contract Bridge League.
Preceding her in death her husband, parents and brothers James and Dale.
Surviving are her children, daughter Gay Lynch and son Neal Humphrey; grandchildren Jennifer Humphrey, James Lynch and Amber Humphrey; great grandson Anthony Arballo, one sister-in-law Ann Duncan and many nieces and nephews.
