Eusebio ‘Pancho’ Chavez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, November 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and generosity. Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2024, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens.
Born on February 20, 1933, in Mexico to Jose Chavez and Guadalupe Garcia, Eusebio embodied a spirit of hard work and dedication from a young age. As a child he helped his dad farm their land and went on to work in the mines in Mexico as he grew older. On January 28, 1955, Eusebio married his cherished wife, Pilar Nava, with whom he shared 62 blessed years. In 1955, Eusebio moved to the United States on a work visa to begin building the foundation for a better life for his family. In 1963, Pilar followed making the move from Mexico to Midland, Texas, where they built a loving home together and raised their three children: Socorro, Saul, and Sammy.
Eusebio, also known as ‘Pancho’ by many, worked on the Number 9 Ranch for John Casselman most of his life. He raised his family on the ranch and enjoyed riding horses and tending to the livestock. Pancho was the epitome of what a cowboy is from his ranching skills to his strength, self-reliance and determination. He instilled core values in his family of unconditional love, working hard, and always doing the right thing. His generous spirit and warm heart made him a friend to many, and he will be best remembered for the kindness he extended to all. His family finds peace knowing that Eusebio knew and loved our Lord Jesus Christ, and because of that we will all rejoice together one day in heaven.
Eusebio is survived by his daughter, Socorro, and her husband, Rudy; his son, Saul, and his wife, Christina; two sisters, Juanita Chavez Garcia and Conception Chavez Garcia; one brother, Javier Chavez Garcia; as well as 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pilar; his son, Sammy; his father, Jose Chavez; his mother, Guadalupe Chavez Garcia; his brothers, Eliodoro, Lorenzo, Manuel and Jaime Chavez Garcia; his sisters, Antonia, Luz, Serafina, Guadalupe and Elena Chavez Garcia.
Eusebio’s impact will continue to be felt through all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed but his love for family, his unwavering generosity, and zest for life have created an everlasting legacy.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards the Casselman family, his nurses from Enhabit Home Health, and all the doctors and nurses that cared for him throughout the years, including most recently at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Chavez, Marcus Chavez, Blaine Chavez, Charlie Falcon, Cody Falcon, Clay Falcon, Landon Newbrough, Laeden Newbrough and honorary pallbearers will be Noah Carranza, Michael Chavez, and Albert Valenzuela.
