Eugene P. (Gene) Kimble, 84, of Kerrville, formerly of Big Spring, died on Thursday, June 12, 2008, in a Kerrville nursing home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 16, 2008 at the Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with his nephew, Rev. Charles E. Kimble officiating.The son of Arthur and Nellie Crawford Kimble, he was born on September 25, 1923, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Afer the death of his mother, his father married the late Mary (Eurist) Kimble who was mother to Gene throughout his life.Gene came to Big Spring in 1935 with his parents and brothers. He graduated from Big Spring High School and attended Harden Simmons University. During World War II he worked in California in an aircraft plant. He returned to Big Spring in 1951 working along side his brother, Jack as assistant manager of the circulation department at the Big Spring Herald. He became circulation manager in March 1969. Gene also worked in the accounting department at the Herald at the time of his retirement. He remained in Big Spring until 1997 when he moved to Kerrville. He was a member of the Texas Circulation Managers Association and a member of the Church of Christ.He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Vance Kimble.Survivors include three nephews, Russell C. Kimble of Odessa, Charles E. Kimble of Malakoff, and Jack Kimble of Greenville; one niece, Phyllis Blair of Kerrville.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
