Esperanza "Hope" Gonzalez Barrera, 87, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, in an Odessa nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 8, 2008 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with, Father Ariel Lagunilla, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM.She was born on November 15, 1920, in Yrapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico and married Eleno Barrera in 1943 in San Diego, California. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1965.Esperanza came to Big Spring in 1927 from Mexico. She was a homemaker and a Catholic.Survivors include two sons, Albert Barrera and wife, Corina of Odessa, and Jesse Rios and wife, Kim of Big Spring; one daughter Irene Barrera Lopez and husband, Joseph; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by one daughter, Maria Larez; four sisters, Juanita, Clementina, Angela, and Amalia; three brothers, Luis, Jesus and Lucas.
