Ernest J Gober, 92, of Midland County and Odessa, TX, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Mission Dorado Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:00 am at Denver City Cemetery in Denver City, TX, where he will be interred beside his wife and son.Ernest was born on August 30, 1924 in Coleman Co., TX, to Margie and Albert Gober. He married Mellie Joyce Hughes on August 1, 1945, just before he was discharged from the US Navy. He worked in the oil fields of West Texas from 1946 until he retired in 1981 from Atlantic Richfield Oil Company in Denver City, TX. He served in Baptist churches in the communities where the family lived. He was ordained a deacon of Immanuel Baptist Church, Odessa, and continued serving as deacon when they moved to First Baptist Church, a few years later. In the last few years he moved his membership to Mission Dorado Baptist Church, where he was a member until he died. He enjoyed growing a garden that he shared with many, as well as sharing his pecans from the 9 trees in his yard.Ernest is survived by children, Sue and Don Ellison, David and Sue Gober, and Rebecca Baze; 6 grandchildren, Christy Davis, Jennifer Gober, John Gober, Stephen Gober, Matthew Baze, and James Gober; and 6 great grandchildren, Preston, Piper, and Jackson Davis, and Darbey, Zain, and Isabelle Gober.He is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mellie Gober, a son, John Ray Gober, and both his parents.The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice Midland, and the Homebound ministry of Mission Dorado Baptist Church.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
