Erika Hoak, 39, of Midland, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Hospice House in Odessa after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 4:00 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with KC Blackketter officiating. She was born in Pineville, KY, on June 6, 1973, to Doyle and Sandra Swanner. Erika received her Bachelors degree from West Texas A&M University in Music Therapy. She married Brent Hoak on December 28, 1996 in San Antonio, TX. She was a substitute teacher for MISD and all of her students knew her by Mrs. Fabulous. She was a proud member of the Midland Community Symphonic Band with her husband and two sons. Volunteering at the boys schools was always on her to do list. She was named Carver Center volunteer of the year in 2012 and worked with both the Abell Jr High percussion section and the Midland Lee pit during the past marching season. Her passion was teaching music to sons, Alexander and William, and also teaching her students. After her diagnosis Erika was introduced to Arbonne and became a consultant. Erika was a beloved, wife, mother, and daughter. Her most enjoyable moments were spent surrounded by her family. She will be deeply missed.She is survived by her husband, Brent Hoak of Midland; two sons, Alexander and William Hoak of Midland; mother, Sandra Swanner of Odessa; father, Doyle Swanner of Pineville, KY; brother D.R. Swanner; mother and father-in-law, Cathy and Terry Hoak of Midland; brother-in-law, Wade Hoak of San Angelo; and sister-in-law, Jessie Hoak of Midland; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Carver Center Library, 1300 E Wall St. Midland, TX 79701.
