Emzie "Woody" Woodard, 86, of Big Spring, died on Friday, July 27, 2007, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, August 3, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Pastor William Vaughn of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.He was born on November 18, 1920, in Shrevport, Louisiana and married Florida Bell Giddens on October 6, 1955 in Clovis, New Mexico.Woody served in the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict, receiving two Bronze Stars and Korea Service Medals, a United Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He enjoyed talking about his military tours and his Cadillacs. He loved his family and friends knew him for his laugh. He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church.Survivors include his wife, Florida Woodard of Big Spring; four daughters, Emily Mitchell of Lubbock, Tammey Penny and Latrica Thomas both of Conyers, Georgia, and Joyce Carr of Big Spring; five sons, Emzie Woodard and Emmett Woodard, Michael and Donald Vanderbilt-Woodard, all of Big Spring, and James Woodard of Atlanta, Georgia; 16 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Sara Woodard; one son, Curtis Woodard; three brothers and two sisters.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
