Emma “Em” A. Carnett, 95 of Midland, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm, Monday, March 18, 2024 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 10:00am, Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Fannin Terrace Baptist Church.
Em was a cherished member of the community and left a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 17, 1928, Em pursued education passionately, earning her bachelor’s degree in physical education and art from the University of Texas. She dedicated her professional life to various roles, from office assistant at Berlet Anderson Advertising Co. to teaching preschool, tennis, swimming, and physical fitness. Her commitment to recreation led her to become a registered professional in Recreation in Texas.
Em’s impact extended far beyond her career, as she was an active member of numerous organizations in Midland. She volunteered for the American Red Cross for 26 years, served on the boards of the Community Concerts and Midland Opera Theatre, and helped establish the first Midland Senior Citizen Center. Her passion for sports and community involvement shone brightly as a certified umpire for the US Tennis Association and a marshal for the Sony Open Golf Tournament in Hawaii.
Em dedicated herself to managing her family’s cattle ranch and hunting operation in London, TX. Her love for animals extended to championing several national German Shepherd champions and becoming a certified dog obedience instructor.
Em’s vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication earned her numerous accolades, including the US President’s Sport Award and the title of Centennial Citizen in 1985.
Her enduring legacy will be remembered and celebrated by her surviving relatives, including brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Norm Carnett of Amarillo, TX, Gary and Anita Carnett of Garden City, TX, Greg and Debby Carnett of Sherman, TX, Vicky Carnett of San Angelo, TX; nephew and niece, John and Yolanda Carnett of Midland; 43 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Em was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Carnett; parents, Emma and Stanley Hickory; son, Lane Carnett; brother, Stanley and sister-in-law, Robyn.
Em will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Em’s commitment to community service, love for sports, and unwavering dedication to her family will continue to inspire and resonate with all those whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace, knowing she made a lasting impact on the world around her.
