Emily Whetsel, 90, of Forsan, died on Thursday, September 13, 2007, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Derrick Looney, pastor of First Baptist Church of Forsan, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.She was born on July 16, 1917, in Grand Cane, Louisiana and married Lee Doyle Whetsel, Sr. on July 31, 1949 in Big Spring, Texas. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1993.Mrs. Whetsel had been a registered nurse since 1938. She came to Big Spring in 1947 from Shreveport, Louisiana and worked as an RN for Dr. Virgil Sanders. She later taught the Nurses Aide Certification course at Howard College for a number of years.She was a member of Forsan Baptist Church. Emily was active in singing at various churches, nursing homes, and in prison ministry.Survivors include one daughter, Jackie Whetsel of Forsan; two sons, Lee Doyle Whetsel, Jr. of Allen and Marty Whetsel and wife, Donna of Forsan; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Whetsel of Big Spring; five grandchildren, Terry Whetsel and wife, Twila of Big Spring, Christie Sanders of Princeton, Daniel Whetsel and wife, Christina of San Angelo, Nancy Davis and husband, Dusty of Mason and Stephanie Pitchford and husband, Matt of Big Spring; eight great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews including, Doylene (Little) Raney of Round Rock and Dutchess (Whetsel) Klien of Midland. She was also preceded in death by one son, Sonny Whetsel; her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
