Elvira Chavez, 88, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, August 29, 2009, in Austin, Texas. A vigil and rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at the St. Thomas Catholic Church with Rev. Ariel Lagunilla, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. Elvira was born on June 12, 1921, in Marfa, Texas and married Arcenio Chavez on January 15, 1945 in Gainesville, Texas. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1997. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Big Spring. Survivors include four sons, Tony Chavez and Arcenio Chavez, Jr. both of Austin and Chris Chavez and Orlando Chavez both of Big Spring; one daughter, Grace Martinez of Austin; and 15 grandchildren. Mrs. Chavez was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Chavez; a great grandson, Brandon Martinez; great granddaughter, Sarah Hailey Martinez; one brother, Gustavo Ochotorena, and five sisters, Amalia Chavez, Jesus Patino, Manuela Trevino, Lupe Sosa, and Anita Morales.
