Elvin L. Bearden, 84, of Lubbock, formerly of Big Spring, died on Monday, August 24, 2009, in a Lubbock hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM, Thursday, August 27, 2009 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Clyde Freeman, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.Elvin Leon Bearden was born September 15, 1924 in Waxahachie to Alton and Ellie Bearden. The family moved to Dawson County in 1934. He graduated from Sparenberg High School in 1943, where he was active in football, basketball and track and field. Elvin served in the United States Navy during World War II.On June 16, 1946, Elvin married the love of his life, Lloyd Ola Thompson in Lamesa.Elvin worked 30 years for Cosden/Fina Refinery and after retirement he worked the next 22 years parttime for Bob's Custom Woodworking.He was an active member of the Evening Lions Club for several years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Big Spring. On most Sundays after church he could be found at LaPosada Mexican Restaurant.Elvin and Lloyd Ola lived in Big Spring for 50 years and moved to Carillon Lifecare Retirement Center in Lubbock in February 2005.Elvin loved God, his family and friends, helping others, the Dallas Cowboys and woodworking. He was loved in return and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lloyd Ola Bearden of Lubbock; a daughter, Sue Bearden of Azle; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Molly Bearden of Taos, New Mexico; a grandaughter, Heather Lyon of Emmetsburg, Iowa; two grandsons, Elvin Michael Bearden of Portland, Oregon and Ian Wood Bearden of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a great grandson Joey Clemens, a great granddaughter, Jordyn Luft both of Iowa; two sisters, Martha Conway Freeman and husband, Clyde of San Angelo and Bettye Gainus of Big Spring; a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law, LaVera and Dick Mitchell of Big Spring; nine nephews and five nieces.He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Ellie Bearden; a brother and sister-in-law, J. C. and Inez Bearden; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Rayon Hester and Nell and Ray Scott; and a nephew and great nephew, Rusty and Aaron Mitchell.The family suggests memorials be made to the Texas Lion's Camp, P.
