Elmer Winston Barnett, Sr., 91, of Midland passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016. Private services will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park.Elmer was born on August 21, 1924 in Steephollow, now Bryan, Texas to Calvin Luther Barnett and Jewell Webster Barnett. Many of his childhood years were spent in Navasota, Texas. Elmer married his high school sweetheart, Marie Barber, on October 4, 1947 in Midland, Texas. They both graduated from Midland High School with the class of 1944. Together they raised three children, Elmer Winston Barnett, Jr. “Buster”, Geoffrey Lynn Barnett, and Jeanette Barnett Dragisic. In 1946 Elmer began working for Chevron as an oil scout for forty years until his retirement in 1986. Marie passed away on July 26, 1984. On August 30, 1985, Elmer married Sarah Carter Barnett and the couple continued to reside in Midland until his passing. Elmer was a lifetime PTA member, Little League and Pony League Baseball coach, umpire, and league president. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Midland and a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge of Midland. He was also a member and past officer of the Downtown Lion’s Club. Elmer was an enthusiast of rocks, gems, minerals, and coin collecting. He loved researching genealogy and Texas History. Elmer enjoyed western movies and music and loved his family’s many pets.Elmer is survived by his wife, Sarah Carter Barnett; son, Elmer “Buster” Winston Barnett, Jr.; grandchildren, Amanda Barnett and Trey Barnett and his wife Nikki; great-grandchildren, Tanner Barnett, Noble, Miriam, Asa, Kiah, and India Riddell; son, Geoff Barnett and wife, Sylvia Barnett; grandchildren, Geoffrey Barnett, Jr., Wade Barnett, and Meredith Barnett; great grandchild, Ian Barnett; daughter, Jeanette Barnett Dragisic and husband Thomas; grandchildren, Nicole Dragisic and Noelle Dragisic Hall and husband Clint Hall; and numerous friends.He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie Barber Barnett; daughter-in-law, Susan Barnett; sister, Wanda Barnett; and brother, Raymond Barnett.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Lone Star Animal Sanctuary, 4200 North Fairgrounds Road, Midland, Texas 79705, 432-683-7387 under the account name “E.W.
