Elma Evelyn Hood, 89, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, April 20, 2006, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Byron Brown, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until service time at the Fellowship Hall at the Church.Elma Evelyn Hood was born Elma Evelyn Holland on June 6, 1916, to Ernest and Myrtle Holland in Clarkston, Washington.She came to Texas with her parents when she was a very young girl and grew up on a farm at Loraine, Texas. In 1929, she moved with her family to Big Spring.After finishing school, she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for several years and later worked for Cosden Oil and Chemical for about 20 years.She married Curtis Hood on August 20, 1940 and he preceded her in death on August 18, 2000.She joined the First Church of Nazarene in 1933. She loved the Lord and her church and enjoyed serving in many areas of the church for many years.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Larry Don and Kathy Hood of San Angelo; one daughter, Theresa Luann Hood of Big Spring; Linda Voyles, who was like a daughter, of Terrell; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Avyce Lockhart of Houston; a brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and June Holland of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Johnnie Holland of Eagle Lake and a special friend, Billie MizeThe family suggests memorials be made to the Children's Church Fund at the First Church of the Nazarene, Big Spring, Texas 79720.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
