Elizabeth (Betty) Casey SappingtonBetty Sappington, age 86, of Midland, Texas passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 3:00PM at Resthaven Memorial Park with Dr. Steve Schorr officiating.Betty was born December 28, 1927 to Gwendolyn Brickey Casey and William Henry Casey in Potosi, Missouri, where she spent her young life. She attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri and the University of Missouri, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. While at Missouri she met Jack Sappington and they were married in 1949. They moved to Midland in 1952 where they reared their three daughters and spent many happy years. Betty loved entertaining, golf and working in her yard. She and Jack enjoyed traveling and made many memorable trips. Music was a big part of her life and she played hand bells many years at the First Presbyterian Church of Midland. She was a charter member of the Midland Arts Association and the Colonel Theunis Dey Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She volunteered for various organizations including the Midland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 51 years, her parents, a sister, Brickey Helmantoler, and brother William “Buck” Casey.Betty is survived by her three daughters, Debra Rae Sappington, of Dallas; Carol and husband, Lindsay Borden, of Midland, with grandchildren Casey and husband Brian Morrison and son Jack Russell Borden; and Kitty and husband, Bill Chalfant, with grandchildren Andrew Lawson and Matthew Chalfant and wife Amber, great grandchildren William Wesley and Evelyn Chalfant, all of Midland.The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Hospice of Midland, Wanda and the nursing staff at Helen Greathouse and to the Poppy Flower sitters for the professional and thoughtful care given to our mother and especially our thanks to Christiana V. whose loving care of our mother was so greatly appreciated.In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to The Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923; First Presbyterian Church Music Fund, 800 W.
