Elfriede Palacios

Elfriede Palacios, 89, of Big Spring, passed away July 25, 2020. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.Elfriede was born April 23, 1931 in Sulzdorf, Germany to Margarete and Wilhelm Schon. Later they moved to Vellberg to work a farm.Elfriede went to school in Hesental and after graduating from high school she moved to Stuttgart, where she worked as a clerk typist. In Stuttgart she met Juan Palacios, the man of her dreams, an American Air Force sergeant who became the love of her life. They married June 9, 1956 in Goeppingen, Germany. They were married 64 years and had three children, a son, Ulrich and two daughters, Eva and Juanita (Janie). After coming to the United States, Elfriede received her citizenship, and later persued a degree as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked for various Physicians and worked for ten years for the Health Department.Elfriede retired in 1995, giving her more time enjoying her family, gardening and helping her husband establish a pecan orchard and visiting family and friends in Germany.Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Juan; her daughters, Eva and Janie; eight Grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.Elfriede was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; a sister; and her son, Ulrich.Pallbearers will be Jonathan Palacios, Luke Palacios, Paul Palacios, Caleb Pharr, Josh Hopkins, Jonathan Brookshire, Langston Hopkins and Ray Sickles.The family suggests memorials to The American Cancer Society, % Vicki Stewart, 6 Coachmans Circle, Big Spring, TX 79720 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory.
