Eldon Anderson Welch, 95, of Tarzan, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the evening of Sunday, January, 26th, 2025. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, from 5-7 pm, at Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton. A Celebration of Life Service will be at First Baptist Church of Tarzan on Wednesday, January 29th at 10:00 am. A private burial will be Thursday, January 30th at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Eldon was born in Dawson County on Friday, September 13th, 1929, to Irvin Eldon and Mattie Mae (Anderson) Welch. Eldon grew up in Martin County. He graduated from Courtney High School. At the age of 22, Eldon joined the United States Air Force and served from 1951-1953. He was stationed at Alaska. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, Eldon returned home to Tarzan where he met the love of his life, Georgia Ann Glaze. They were married in Tarzan, on November 18, 1954, at the home of her parents, Joe Lee & Jessie (Robertson) Glaze. They shared a life of over 70 years together and were blessed with four daughters. Rosalind Welch of Stanton, Leslie Robinson (Scott) of Tarzan, Faye Madison (Roy) of Lenorah and Kara Welch of Tarzan. Eldon and Georgia and their girls shared a life of farming cotton, alfalfa, raising cattle and sheep. Eldon was a member of First Baptist Church, Tarzan for over 60 years. He accepted Jesus as a young boy and said that was “the Best day of his life”. Eldon was a volunteer fireman, a 4-H Leader and a County Commissioner. He was a Master Mason, a Shriner and a member of the American Legion. He loved his God, his family, his community and his Country. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Melissa Leiker (Gabe) of McKinney, Sharon Reid (Jake) of Stanton, Lauren Smith (Sean) of Stanton, Zane Robinson (Emma) of Gardendale, Caroline Sanford of Abilene, and Brent Madison (Kaci) of Tarzan, and great grandchildren, Ethan & Ava Leiker, Ellie, Hattie, & Aggie Reid, Laken Robinson & Brailynn Colegrove, Seth, Tyson & Sadie Sanford, and Brynlee Madison. Survivors include his sisters Glynda Tunnell and Gracie Percy (Sonny), his sisters-in-law, Linda Nichols & Nancy Yates, brother-in-law, Mike Penn and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, his brothers, Charlie and Benny Welch, sister-in-law, Janice Penn and his grandson Clayton Welch Henson.
The pallbearers are Gabe Leiker, Jake Reid, Zane Robinson, Sean Smith and Brent Madison. Honorary pallbearers are Dub Chandler, Roy Madison, Scott Robinson, Johnny Louder and Randy Henson.
We would like to express our gratitude to the nurses and caregivers at the Vogel Center at Manor Park. We appreciate the love and care you gave him. Also, to Hospice of Midland and especially to friends and family that took time to visit him.
