Elbia Henderson, 84, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, October 14, 2006, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, October 16, 2006 at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with Rev. Elwin Collom, Home Hospice Chaplain, officiating. He was born on March 6, 1922, in Neodesha, Kansas and married Dorothy Lou Morgan on February 28, 1946 in Plainview, Texas.At the age of 3, Elbia and his family moved to Potwin, Kansas, where he attended and graduated high school in 1940. While in school, he delivered newspapers and worked at the grocery store. He went to Jr. College at El Dorado, Kansas and worked for Boeing Air Craft Company in Wichita, Kansas. Elbia enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 and served on Okinawa during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. While in the Air Force, he met Dorothy Lou Morgan in Lubbock. They lived in Kansas for a while before moving to Big Spring in the early 1950's. Elbia worked at various jobs including Hall Auto Parts and for Tommy Gage as a jobber for his Fina Stations. He did accounting work and taxes until he got his real estate license. He and Dorothy built their home on Lancaster Street and later designed and over saw the building of their underground home on Birdwell Lane. As well as buying and remodeling properties for resale, Elbia had a pilots license and flew small planes for his own enjoyment. He and Dorothy belonged to a Square Dance Club and helped build their building.He was a Baptist.Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Henderson of Big Spring; one sister, Jaunita Gentry of Neodesha, Kansas; 2 nephews, Norman Gentry of Neodesha, Kansas, and Richard Gentry of Bryant, Arkansas; one niece, Norma Lee Harris of Little Rock, Arkansas; 2 great nephews, 4 great nieces, and 13 great great nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
