LaRue Elaine Whisenhunt, 69, of Midland, TX, passed away on May 24, 2023. She was born October 15, 1953, in Hobbs, NM, as the eldest child of James Denvil Whisenhunt and Lena LaRue Whisenhunt. Elaine grew up in Whitesboro, Texas.
After graduating from Whitesboro High School, Elaine completed nursing courses at Grayson College. After one year of courses, Elaine spent the next 30 years working at Denton State School. The work was hard, but Elaine’s kindness and compassion made her a perfect fit for this career.
Elaine loved children, music, reading, word search puzzles, and working with her hands. Over the years, she enjoyed painting ceramics, creating latch hook rugs, and crocheting. Elaine faced several health challenges over the years, but fought hard to live and remain independent.
After retiring from Denton State School, Elaine moved to Midland, Texas, where her mother, father and youngest brother were already living. Wherever Elaine lived, she got involved in a local Baptist church. Elaine crocheted many blankets for those in need after she retired and joined Bellview Baptist Church in Midland. Additionally, Elaine loved signing for songs sung in her church services. Elaine will be remembered as a Christian who loved the Lord, loved her family, and was kind to others.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Denvil and LaRue Whisenhunt, and one brother Thomas Lee Whisenhunt. Survivors include her sister Loretta (Hadyn) Bourn of Houston and brother Randy (Janet) Whisenhunt of Hillsboro, KS. Other survivors include nieces, Julie Ford (husband Tony and children James and Joseph) and Jenny Whisenhunt of New York City, NY, and Gabi Bourn of Houston, TX.
Special thanks must be given to Dr. Ram Kolluru who worked diligently as her cardiologist to help maintain her health and quality of life during the years she lived in Midland. Additional thanks go to Dr. Kendra Muncrief who played a crucial role in helping Elaine and her family during her final week.
