Edwin J. Bednar, 82, of Big Spring, died on Monday, December 6, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at the 14th & Main Church of Christ, with Rick Cunningham, minister and Royce Clay, retired Church of Christ minister, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.He was born on October 15, 1922, in Eola, Texas and married Luella Tennison in 1941 and she preceded him in death in 1967. He later married Zirah LeFevre on December 17, 1970, in Big Spring.Mr. Bednar worked as an aircraft inspector for North American Aviation prior to entering the service. He joined the United States Army where he served as a medic in the European Theatre. He farmed all of his life in Glassock County. He was a member of 14th and Main Church of Christ where he was serving as an elder at the time of his death.Mr. Bednar had served on the Selective Service Board in Midland for many years. He had also served on the Garden City School Board, FSA Board in Glasscock County, and the Howard County Farm Bureau Board. Mr. Bednar was fluent in the Czech language, and did missionary work in Slovakia. He had worked in the Big Spring prison ministry for many years.Survivors include his wife, Zirah Bednar of Big Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Gene Spangler of Big Spring; one brother and sister-in-law, Wilburn and Bonnie Bednar of St. Lawrence; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; two nephews; and two nieces.He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Suan Blair; and one brother, Clayton Bednar.
