On August 8, 2016 our cherished loved one E. Dale McCarter transitioned to eternal peace in Midland, Texas at the age of 81. He is survived by his bride of 56 years Hallie Loy McCarter of Midland; his three sons, Kevin McCarter of Vilcabamba, Ecuador, Jamie McCarter and his wife Margie of Midland and Shawn McCarter and his wife Kelle of Castle Rock, Colorado as well as his sister Bobbye Lou McCarter of Leslie, Georgia and his brother-in-law and sister-in -law O. Fred and Sandra Loy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.Dale was born on January 7, 1935 in Ft. Worth, TX to the late Edgar D. McCarter and Wesley C. McCarter. He grew up in Fort Worth where he attended school before moving to Alexandria, LA where he graduated from Bolton High School. Dale went on to serve in the Marines during the Korean War. Afterward, he attended Louisiana State University, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji), and in 1961, he graduated with a BS in Petroleum Engineering. His first step into the petroleum industry was to work offshore for Texaco. After living in Electra and Pampa, TX and Hobbs, NM, Dale moved his family to Midland in 1970 to lead Texaco’s division development team. Leaving Texaco in 1977, he worked for several independent petroleum companies in Midland and Markland in Dallas. From 1988 until his retirement in 2003 he worked for Texas Crude, continuing to work as a consultant with them up to his passing. Dale held several patents in tertiary recovery and co-authored the white paper for the U.S. government for petroleum development in Libya while working for Texaco. He also was an active member in the Society of Petroleum Engineers. From his earliest days in family and professional life, Dale eagerly took lead roles in his community, church and the development of his children. In Hobbs, he led the Oil Patch District of the Boy Scouts of America Scout O Rama and was Sunday School Superintendent at the First United Methodist Church. In Midland, Dale was President of the Midland Library Board, active in the Friends of the Library, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the First United Methodist Church, and active in Junior Achievement. He also was active in the Republican Party and for many years served as a precinct chairman and delegate for the party to the state conventions. He and Hallie were active in the Partner’s Class and the First United Methodist Church here in Midland.Even with all of his community service, Dale was an active outdoorsman and instilled in all of his children a love for nature. As a father, he was a Boy Scout leader, baseball coach, hunting guide and mentor and strived to attend as many of his children’s scholastic, sporting and musical activities as he could. He actively encouraged his children to find our paths and his support was unswerving. All of his children feel truly blessed to have observed his loving relationship with their mother. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A memorial service to honor his life will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 11:00 am. His ashes will be buried next to Hallie’s, when both have transitioned, in the family cemetery located in Deerford, Louisiana. He will be dearly missed by his numerous friends and our family.Honorary pallbearers will be the Partner’s Class of First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers our family’s preference is that donations be made to Hospice of Midland, 911 W Texas AVE, Midland, TX 79701.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
