Edward L. Carter, loving husband, father, son, and brother went to be with the Lord on August 30, 2016 in Midland, Texas. Although born in Natchez, Mississippi to Janice and Billy Bob Carter, Pete was a true Midlander, having spent the majority of his life loving Midland. He attended Robert E. Lee High School where he was a proud member of the Mighty Rebel Band, and he continued his love for band at Texas Tech University as a member of the Goin’ Band from Raiderland. Early on in his teenage years, Midland Memorial Hospital truly gave him a love for medicine, as he both volunteered and was employed in numerous capacities throughout the hospital. Following his graduation from Texas Tech University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, he then followed his lifelong dream of attending medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Upon graduation from medical school in 1982, he pursued a residency in anesthesiology at UTMB.During this time, Pete was fortunate to meet the love of his life, Linda Diane Shons while both were working at John Sealy Hospital in the operating room. Following the completion of his residency, they married in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; yet, Linda and Pete Carter found their home in Midland, Texas, Pete’s beloved hometown. From the beginning of establishing his anesthesia practice, Pete proved to be a selfless and dedicated provider, and he possessed a true love for practicing medicine. However, his true love, greatest joy, and utmost accomplishment came from the births of Pete and Linda’s three beautiful daughters. A lifetime of memories was built with frequent family vacations, countless summer lake trips, holiday traditions, and spending valuable time together as a family. Watching his daughters grow up to be loving, caring, and successful, independent women gave Pete immense pride and unbelievable happiness as a father and husband.Despite the trials that come from practicing medicine while being a devoted husband and father, Pete developed a love for all sports and became an avid and successful golfer. Most Friday nights you could spot him either at the Midland High School or Lee High School football games, often standing in as the team doctor or watching his girls cheer at the Trinity High School games. As a proud season ticket holder, he absolutely was Texas Tech University’s most dedicated football and baseball fan. Pete had an undying love for baseball his whole life and especially loved making trips to Arlington to watch the Texas Rangers play.Pete’s love for practicing anesthesia continued to grow and cultivate over the years, allowing him to serve as Chief of Anesthesia multiple times over his thirty-one years of practice at Midland Memorial Hospital. Pete had the biggest heart; he showed a love for his career and family that showed no bounds. He made a memorable impression on everyone he met and had the ability to truly touch the lives of the people around him. He was a true leader and mentor exhibiting constant optimism regarding his career, a tireless work ethic, and an unending love for his patients, friends, and family.Above all else, Pete was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother and leaves behind his loving wife, Linda; his daughters, Erica, Michelle, and Alaina; his mother, Janice; his brother, Ken and wife, Lezlie; and numerous extended family members. He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Bob and his brother, Keith.Honorary pallbearers include Joseph Brooks, MD, Josiah Tilton, MD, Brad Brock, MD, Scott H.
