Edward Franklin Neagle, aged 86, passed away December 29, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born November 27, 1928, near Quanah, Texas, to Alrie Franklin Neagle and Martha Lemon “Bea” Neagle.Eddie was graduated from Syracuse High School in Syracuse, Kansas, in 1948, and began to work in the oil fields of West Texas near Snyder. After being drafted into the United States Army he was Honorably Discharged, having attained the rank of Sergeant, with his dates of service being from 4 October 1950 to 2 October 1952.Eddie was a lifelong horseman, having owned roping horses and roping first calves, then team-roping steers, as often as his job allowed. As a small child, while living with his family near Caddo, Oklahoma, Eddie would accompany his father to the baseball fields on the Choctaw Indian Reservation and while his father played baseball with an otherwise all Indian baseball team, Eddie would spend the day riding the horses and ponies the Indians had ridden to the ball field. He spoke of those days with fondness.Eddie worked in the oil fields for over 60 years, beginning as a roughneck, then as a driller and tool pusher, for many years for Sharp Drilling Company. He went Independent as a Drilling Consultant in 1975, working for Gulf Oil Company. He also consulted for many years for Florida Oil and Gas and Maralo, Inc. He was respected by his peers for his oil field and drilling knowledge and integrity.Eddie is survived by his wife, Joan E. Neagle. He is also survived by his two children, Dale E. Neagle and wife, Joan Y. Neagle, and Tanya S. Johnson and husband, Maynard D. Johnson, and their children and grandchildren, Drew E. Neagle and wife, Amanda, Michael D. Neagle and wife, Lindsey, and daughter, Jade, and Scott D. Neagle, and Greg D. Johnson and wife, Libby, and sons, Will and Jackson, and Kimberly S. Johnson and Brooks E. Johnson. He is also survived by his wife’s children, Ed Guy Faught, JoCaye Anderson and Tina Colombus, and their families.Eddie is also survived by one brother, Harold D. Neagle and wife, Anne, and sister-in-law, Katrena Neagle, and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Sybil Lindsay and Bobby Neagle and a sister who died in infancy.Eddie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Midland.The family would like to thank the staff at Senior Care for their compassionate care and kindness during Eddie’s last days.The family will accept guests from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Midland.
