Edgar Dean Runkel, 90, of Midland, Texas, died on Sunday, April 16, 2017 in Midland, Texas. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 2020, 2017 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.Edgar was born on June 21, 1926 to Mabel and Carl Runkel in Shelbyville, Illinois. He was a World War II veteran and served in the United States Navy as a ships cook aboard the US Tantalus from 1944 to 1946. Later he attended Sparks Business College and became an accountant for Exxon where he worked for 35 years until retiring in 1984. Ed enjoyed wood working, attending exercise classes at First Presbyterian Church with his many friends and spending time with his granddaughters and great grandsons.He is survived by his sons, Jay M. Runkel and his wife Edna of Andrews, and Kevin D. Runkel and his wife Renee of Midland; brother Carl A Runkel and wife Edith of Vandalia, Illinois; grandchildren Amy and Justin Smith and Kay Dee Runkel; great grandchildren Austin and Mason Smith; along with many nieces and nephews.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
