Eddy Leon Houchins,73, of Midland, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018 surrounded by his family. There will be a memorial service held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 2:30PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland with Rev. Robbie Boyd officiating.Eddy was born on October 9, 1944 to Faye and Leon Houchins in Bridgeport, TX. Eddy graduated from Rankin High School in 1963. He served in the United States Army from 1965-1967 where he served 19 months in Okinawa. He began his career in law enforcement in 1968 with the San Angelo Police Department as a patrolman. Later, he was hired on with the Monahans Police Department as a patrolman and was later promoted to a patrol sergeant. As Eddy acquired experience he spread his wings and began working with the Midland Police Department in 1972 and retired in 2002. He progressed through the ranks of patrol officer, patrol sergeant, detective and detective sergeant.Eddy loved fishing and hunting as well as traveling. He also enjoyed reading, sitting in his office, and “what not”. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Shirley Houchins of Midland; daughter, LaNae and husband Chad of Odessa; mother, Faye Cormier, Bridgeport, TX; sister, Debra Forrester and husband Stephen of Bridgeport, TX; children in love, Steve J. Todd, Jr. and wife Shauna of Midland; Scott Todd and wife Sandi of Midland; and Sherri Wilkes and husband Rusty of Midland; Derrick Gray of Maryland. Grandchildren, Haydn and Landon Todd, Savannah and Addison Todd, Matthew Wilkes, great granddaughter, Layla Todd and numerous niecesHe is preceded in death by his father, Leon Houchins; and brother, Gary Houchins.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
