Eddie Juan Echols, 85, a longtime resident of Coahoma and Howard County passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday, September 30, 2017.The family will receive friends Friday, October 6th, from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Nalley Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Big Spring, Texas. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 7th, at 10:00 am at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.Eddie Juan was born in Midland, Texas on September 23, 1932 to the late Juanita and Big Ed Darnell. She graduated from Midland High School and later attended Texas Christian University.She married the love of her life, Ray Echols on December 4, 1953 in Midland, Texas. They were married 49 years before his death in December 2002. She and Ray lived in Coahoma and raised their children Sally and John there. Eddie Juan was their biggest fan in school, sports and community activities. Those who knew her respected her love for her family, church and community. She worked out of the home as a substitute teacher and election judge in Coahoma, and served as a volunteer at both the State Hospital and Scenic Mountain Auxiliary in Big Spring where she received her volunteer bars for serving 7500 hours. She also enjoyed her times with family, camping with friends, and taking cruises. Eddie Juan was a very dedicated member of the Coahoma Presbyterian Church in which she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Elder, and member of the pulpit committee. She was awarded a lifetime membership to the United Presbyterian Women.She is preceded in death by her parents, Juanita and Ed Darnell; husband W. Ray Echols; and sister, Tommie Rowan.Eddie Juan is survived by her daughter Sally Itz and husband, Vernon of Grapevine; her son John Echols and wife, Heather of Midland; five grandchildren, Justin Itz and wife, Jessica of Colleyville, Lindsey Segars and husband, Jeff of Ft. Worth, Tarabeth Gertsch and husband, Michael of Cedar Park, John Mark Echols and wife, Briana of Midland, and Wilson Echols and wife, Misti of Indonesia; and seven great grandchildren, Marin Itz of Colleyville, Locklin and Lennon Gertsch of Cedar Park, Brody and Tyler Segars of Ft. Worth and Truma and Titus Echols of Midland.The family asks that those who wish to do so, please make donations to: Howard County Junior Livestock Association, P.O.
