Eddie Acri, 71, of Big Spring, died on Sunday, November 4, 2001, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 7, 2001, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremiah McCarthy, Pastor Emeritus, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. Rosary will be 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. He was born on April 7, 1930 in Hazelton, Pennsylvania and married Mary Alice Rutherford on April 3, 1953 in Big Spring. Eddie lived in Big Spring since 1952 and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He had umpired Little League baseball, softball and men's fastpitch softball. He also was a referee for men's and women's high school and college basketball games. Eddie was a former member of the Big Spring Police Association, the Big Spring Golf Association, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He had served on the Big Spring City Council and as Mayor pro tem in the early 1970's. He and his wife had operated Gregg St. Cleaners for many years. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Acri of Big Spring; one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Mary Acri of Big Spring; two daughters and sons-in-law, Roni and Robert Dutro of Leavenworth, Kansas and Mr. & Mrs. Jim Copeland of Mustang, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Britt Hanson of Leavenworth, Kansas, Chris Acri and Kacie Acri of Big Spring, Christa Ogle of Fort Worth, Jeremy Copeland of Mustang, Oklahoma, Micah Copeland of St. Louis, Missouri; one great grandson, Dylan Ogle of Fort Worth; three step grandsons; one sister and brother-in-law, Rosebetty and John Bangor of Roslyn, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
