Earl \Granddad\ Allen, 92, of Midland, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014. A private memorial service was held at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with Chaplain Bill Billett with the burial at Resthaven Memorial Park.He was born March 9, 1922 to Guy P. and Sarah E. Allen in Kingfisher County Oklahoma. Earl grew up in Enid, Oklahoma and graduated from Enid High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was attached to 101st Air Born. He received several medals, including two Purple Hearts. Upon returning to the States in 1945 he reenlisted and spent the next eighteen months in Hawaii. After that he returned to Enid, Oklahoma where he started a twenty-six year career with George E. Failing Company. On June 23, 1951 he married Joan Morrison at St. Ann's Catholic Church Parsonage in Enid. In 1952 they moved to Midland, Texas where he managed the local Failing field office. In 1973 he and Joan formed E & J Trucking Company, and in 1977 they moved to Snyder, Texas. In 1980 they sold their trucking company and returned to Midland in 1982. Earl was a 32nd degree Mason and several years ago he received his 50 year pin. He began delivering Meals on Wheels in 1984 and had to 'retire' in 2010 due to illness. During his Meals on Wheels tenure he met many wonderful people while delivering meals and preforming handy-man duties for CSS clients. Awards received included Outstanding Community Volunteer in 1991, Permian Basin Senior Hall of Fame Inductee in 1997, President's 2006 Call to service Award for dedicating at least 4,000 hours over the course of their lives to serve others. Of all the awards he received, the one dearest to his heart was having a Meals on Wheels route, the Earl Route, named after him. During their 58 year marriage Earl and Joan traveled to Las Vegas several times a year.Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Merry and Doug McGee of Midland, Texas, three grandsons, Allen McGee, his wife Jordan, and their children, Bayleigh and Jaxon all of Graham, Texas, Daniel McGee and his wife Courtney of Midland, Texas and Trey McGee of Midland, Texas, two brothers, Floyd Allen of Spiro, Oklahoma and Harold Allen of Lahoma, Oklahoma, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan on August 18, 2009, his parents, sister, Dortha Mae Schmitz.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Meals on Wheels, 3301 Sinclair Avenue, Midland, Texas, 79707.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
