Dr Jerry Lee Jones – of Midland passed away on November 14, 2014. Born in Palmersville, Tennessee to Elise and Burrice Jones. He attended the University of Tennessee and earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in business and a PHD in Public Administration.Jerry was preceded in death by both parents, and his loving wife of 52 years, Patricia Ann Sharp Jones.Jerry had three daughters: Amy Cuellar, Melody Crowl and husband Terry of Midland, Texas, and Lee Ann Barrows of McKinney, Texas. He is survived by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Christopher Cuellar, his wife Brianna, and their two daughters, Jada and Jaelynn. Danielle Barrows, Carson Cuellar, Brooke Barrows, Erik Crowl, Madden Barrows, Branna Barrows, Ian Crowl and Aidan Crowl. In addition he is survived by his sister-in law Mary Lou Houser and honorary family members and care givers Maria Lulu Sanchez and Elfida Perez.Jerry’s passion for higher education spanned 35 years in West Virginia, Tennessee and Texas. His positions ranged from Professor, Department Chair, College President and Vice Chancellor of the State Board of Regents for higher education. After retiring from education, he went into private business in Midland and worked another 17 years.Jerry influenced and touched the lives of many individuals through various organizations, and enjoyed helping those in his community in any way he could. It would be impossible to mention all of what he did, but serving prison ministry through the Gideon’s was something he thoroughly enjoyed. He was also very active at the state and national levels, serving as president for the local organization. In addition, he was very involved with Teen Challenge in Midland, Texas and served on their board of directors. He was also very involved with serving on the board of directors for the American Red Cross Association. Jerry’s local church where he was very active as well was Memorial Christian Church.He will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, guiding and nurturing father, grandfather, loyal friend, inspirational leader and businessman. He lived his life daily with prayer, smiles, and humility. Jerry’s philosophy about education was, “No one can ever take your knowledge and education away from you. You’ll always have your degree.”Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Midland.In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any of the above organizations or the American Heart Association.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
