Doyle Vaughn, 91, of Mansfield, formerly of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, April 16, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Gary Groves, pastor of the First Christian Church of Midland, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.He was born on March 3, 1914, in Hamlin, Texas and married Mildred Tynes on September 15, 1934 in Midland, Texas.Doyle was a baker and cotton farmer by occupation and enjoyed both. He was more widely known for his baking, especially donuts which gave him the nickname "Donut". His bakery provided bread for the major bread companies and he also had the contract for Webb Air Force Base. He was operating seven trucks at one point in his career, working 24 hours 7 days a week closing the business only on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. He raised and raced horses as a hobby and would never turn down a chance to play poker with his buddies. Doyle was a friend that would help anyone in need, he had a heart of gold.He was a good husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved his family.He was a member of the First Christian Church and during his earlier years, Doyle was a member of many civic organizatiions including the Lion's Club, Knights of Pithias, Sheriff's Posse, Chamber of Commerce and Farm Bureau.Survivors include his wife, Mildred Vaughn of Mansfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Carolyn Vaughn of Mansfield; one daughter, Beverly Kay of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Paula Kay and John Paul Kay both of San Antonio, Lisa Vaughn Englett and husband David and Kelley Vaughn Doby and husband Bill all of Mansfield; four great grandson, Kevin "Tye" Vaughn, Brandon Englett, Austin Doby and Ethan Doby. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.
