Doyle Hale

Doyle Hale, 96, of Stanton, went to be with Our Lord on Sunday October 8th, 2023 in Big Spring, Texas. He will lie in state Monday October 16, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. The family welcomes all to a graveside services Tuesday October 17th at 2:00 pm at Trinity Memorial Peace Chapel.

Doyle was born November 21st, 1927 to Charlie and Nettie Hale (Pace) in Loraine, Texas. He was the 3rd child of 11. He moved to Martin County as a boy from a farm in Mitchell County to a family farm in Martin County when he was 9 years old in a Model T truck with their dogs riding on the roof of the vehicle. They arrived after dark and when he woke up he said, “where’s all the trees?” He worked on the farm for many years until WW2. He joined the Marine Corps and faithfully served in Guam.

After his service he came home and married Clairese Modelle Long on July 19th, 1950 and settled in Big Spring, Texas.

Doyle was very active in the community being a Boy Scout Leader while he worked as a truck driver for Tommy Gage. He continued supporting his community when the family moved back to Martin County in 1966 to farm. He continued leading Boy Scouts and he enjoyed camping trips with them. He also served as a County Commissioner. Doyle was a dedicated cotton farmer for many years. He is well remembered for attending dances, leading parades, telling stories, and genuinely caring for everyone around him. He could be found at many sporting events at Grady with a cup of coffee in hand. After his wife passed away he took up woodwork to keep his hands and mind busy. Many are blessed to have his crosses or lamps.

He was preceded in death by his wife Clairese, many friends, and family members.

Survivors include two sons: Gary Hale and Rodney and Peggy Hale; three grandchildren: Matt Hale, Brandi and Ryan Grant, Heather and Jobe Christon; nine great grandchildren: Brooke and James Sanders, Evan Luttrell, Kaitlyn, Cameron Collin, Kurstyn Grant, Jayden, Johanna and Julianna Christon; one great great grandchild: Jameson Sanders; one sister: Betty Sue Crocker and one brother Kenneth Hale.
