Dorothy was born on January 19th, 1937, to Russell and Nellie Ayersman in Morgantown, West Virginia. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning July 1st.
She grew up in Hammond, Indiana where her father worked for the Railroad. She was the youngest of Six children and two foster siblings. They nicknamed her “Dot” or “Dotty”. She was very active with her neighborhood Christian church community and was a Sunday school teacher. In her young adult years, she met her husband, Dan while working as a mail clerk for Wilson Foods Corp in Chicago, IL.
Dan was an accountant for Wilson Foods for about 40 years and Dorothy worked in several positions there. She and Dan married on October 26th, 1957, and eventually had four children. Dorothy is survived by her four children, Daniel Shively IV, of Albuquerque, NM; Laura Suggs and her husband Tim of Blanchard, Ok; John Shively of Oklahoma City, OK; and Lisa Franklin and her husband Jeff of Midland, TX. Her grandchildren: Cristina Jones and her husband Andrew of Oklahoma City, OK; Grant Franklin and his wife Hellen of Northlake, TX; Matthew Suggs and his wife Kaela of Blanchard, OK; and Ellee Franklin of Midland TX; as well as two great grandchildren Josiah Jones and Audrie Franklin.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Dan as well as her parents and five siblings. Dorothy worked sacrificially throughout her married life to give her children more than she had and will be remembered for her generosity. She lived the last almost 8 years of her life in a Memory Care facility in Midland, Texas where she was well cared for and enjoyed being a part of the activities there especially when they would have people or groups come in and sing. She loved to sing and would tap her knee and toes to the beat of the songs, while often bobbing her head.
She will be missed, but we do know because of her placing her faith in Christ when she was a young teen, that she is in the presence of her Lord.
