Like all generations, Dorothy Marie (Dittoe) Walsh’s life was influenced by the events of her time. Born March 28, 1927 in Wichita Falls, Texas on the eve of the Great Depression and “Dust Bowl,” and with World War II looming just over the horizon, Dorothy learned the lessons of her times: generosity to those less fortunate during the Great Depression, the importance of family and friends during the “Dust Bowl” and love of country from the patriotism rising out of the ashes of Pearl Harbor.Born the youngest of three children and the only daughter of Andrew Xavier and Agnes Elizabeth Dittoe, Dorothy Marie was, as she put it: “The only girl in the family and was spoiled by Mom and Dad. While my brothers worked the dairy with Dad, I was allowed to play with dolls and just be a little girl.” Dorothy graduated from the Catholic Academy of Mary Immaculate in Wichita Falls in May 1944 and attended Draughan’s Business College in Wichita Falls.Dorothy married Airman Sergeant Robert Hugh Walsh on May 2, 1946 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wichita Falls. They had two children: Mary Pamela Walsh Schaefer who survives Dorothy’s death and lives in Houston, Texas, and Sean Patrick Walsh who predeceased his mother in 1982. Her loving husband of 60 years passed-away on August 28, 2006.In 1956 Dorothy and her family moved to Midland, Texas where she raised her family and worked as an accountant for Pioneer Natural Gas and Midwest Electric before Joining Elcor in 1965. She worked for Elcor for the next 26 years; retiring in 1991.Dorothy resided in Midland until her move to Houston in 2007 where she lived the remainder of her life near her daughter.Dorothy passed away on February 20, 2018 and will be buried next to her husband Robert Hugh and her son Sean Patrick in the Resthaven Memorial Cemetery, Midland, Texas.
