Dorothy K. Smith, 83, of Big Spring, died on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at her residence in Odessa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Big Spring with Rev. Ken McIntosh, Dr. Bill Smythe and Rev. John Culp, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.She was born on February 15, 1926, in Alice, Texas and married John Frank Smith on December 22, 1948 in Alice, Texas. He preceded her in death on August 15, 1996.She received her Bachelors Degree from Texas A & I and her Masters Degree from Texas Tech. She and her late husband came to Big Spring in 1960 where she taught English in the Big Spring School District. She was later a teacher in the Special Education Department retiring in 1986. She was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Paula Smith of Odessa; one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Ann and Gary Lawson of Hobbs, New Mexico; four grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Johnson and husband, Jason of Austin, Megan Ann Black and Jacob Lawson both of New Braunfels, and Justin Lawson of Hobbs, New Mexico; one great grandchild, Bryton Black; two nieces, Sherian Gibson of Denver, Colorado and Bettinae Kaiser of Kingsville; four nephews, Jim Story of Houston, Charles Story of Loveland, Colorado, and Gordon Story and Richard Story both of Corpus Christi. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.The family suggests memorials be made to First Christian Church, 911 Goliad, Big Spring, Texas 79720 or to a favorite charity.
