Dorothy T. Haden, also known as “Dot,” passed away December 31, 2014 at the age of 85.She was born in Breckenridge, TX on August 27th, 1929 to Albert Miller Torrance and Anna Torrance. She had three sisters, Helen Speegle, Jo Ann McKissack (Bob) and Jerry Carruth, and two brothers, Robert and Donald Torrance.With her sweet and congenial personality and the desire to help others, it is no surprise that she chose to go into the field of nursing. She graduated from Mather School of Nursing at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, LA in 1949. Her first job as a Registered Nurse was at the office of Dr. Thomas Abney in Odessa, TX.Dot married the love of her life, Donald Glenn Haden, on May 26th, 1950 and had two sons, Paul and Tom Haden. She took some time off from nursing to run her household and raise her boys, but later worked at Midland Memorial Hospital for approximately 10 years in the 1960s. Following that, she became a school nurse for Midland Independent School District and retired from MISD in 1980. She was also a nursing volunteer for the American Red Cross and taught mother and baby care classes. She served on the Family Services of Midland Board of Directors, serving as President of the board in her last year.Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, fishing, hiking, and golfing. She managed to achieve 3 hole-in-ones in her lifetime, two of which were on her birthday! She enjoyed extensive traveling with her husband in their retirement years.Dot is survived by her sisters Jo Ann and Jerry, her husband Don, her sons, Tom and Paul, daughter in-law, Terri, 3 grandchildren, Paula Hamby (Aaron), Michael, and Callie Carathers (Matt), and 3 great-grandchildren, Kylee Hamby, Haden Hamby, and Clara Hamby.Dot was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Helen, and her brothers, Robert and Donald.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Midland Memorial Foundation, 400 Rosalind Redfren Grover Parkway, Midland, Texas 79701, Attn: Tricia Jowell Cobb, with check memo to The Dorothy Haden, R.N.
