Dorothy Elizabeth ”Dot” SullivanOur loving Mother, Dorothy Elizabeth Sullivan, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016 in Manor Park Mabee Health Care Center, Midland, TX. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend to many.She was born March 3, 1927, Dorothy Elizabeth Johnson, Pritchard, Alabama and she was raised on the family farm and attended Citronelle High School, Class of 1944.For 49 years she was married to E.M. “Sully” Sullivan and they lived in Rankin Texas where she also raised 4 of her 5 children.She served Upton County in the Upton County Extension office for 23 years starting after her children began school. In her extension role she served as one of the bookkeepers for the All-Kid Rodeo held each summer in Rankin and organized 4-H stock shows, dress revues and food shows. Dorothy was co-owner of D & D Ribbon Company along with Dub Day and also worked with him in procuring Pine and Pecan trees for many Rankin residents. She volunteered at the Upton County Public Library and worked as a substitute teacher in the Rankin independent School District after her retirement.Dot, as she was known to many, was an avid china painting artist, a well-known cook and involved in over 50 years of community service in Rankin, TX. She was a member of the local Epsilon Chi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and served in most of the officer roles of the sorority as well as the annual Valentine Girl. Many organizations benefitted from her donation of time including the Upton County Historical Society, First Baptist Church, Rankin Garden Club and as a 4-H volunteer. She was the bookkeeper for the Rankin Country Club Board many years. Dot was instrumental in the building of the Bi-Centennial Park and was honored in her later years as an Upton County Pioneer. She loved her pecan trees and thus became one of the Upton County Pecan Show organizers as well as serving on the State Pecan Show Pageant committee. Locals could also call Dot up at any time and order a loaf of fresh bread, a jar of jelly or a delicious dessert.Dorothy Elizabeth Sullivan was preceded in death by her husband, E. M. “Sully” Sullivan, granddaughter, Taylor Elizabeth Kucel, 2 brothers, 3 sisters and her parents Brady and Mamie Johnson.The surviving family who holds her so dear include her sons Monroe “Bubba” Sullivan and his wife Debbra of Midland, TX and Roger Sullivan of Midland; daughters June Sullivan Griffin of Midland, Joann Sullivan Knox of Lago Vista, TX and Carolyn Green of Birmingham, Alabama. Her biggest treasures were her grandchildren who will always say they had the best grandmother. These include 7 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, in 2015 she was blessed with 5 of her 19 great grandchildren and was excited with one more due in June. She is also survived by 2 sisters, 2 brothers and an abundance of nieces, nephews and friends.A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Monday, February 8, 2016. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Rankin Cemetery in Rankin, Texas.Pallbearers are her Grandsons Clay Sullivan, Brady Sullivan, Tyler Sullivan, Jeremy Warren, Matt Worstell, Greg Seiler, Chad Kucel and Turner Green.Memorials are suggested to the Make A Wish of North Texas. 4413 82nd Street, Suite 203, Lubbock, TX 79424 (ntx.wish.org select Lubbock Regional Office) or First Baptist Church of Rankin, TX.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
