Dora Jean Bibb Wohlfeld, 85, of Midland died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Friday, October 9, 2015 in Midland.Dora Jean was born on August 14, 1930 to Earl and Claude Collier Bibb in Stephenville, TX. Her family moved to Big Spring, TX and then to San Angelo, TX where she graduated from San Angelo High School in 1947. Dora Jean also attended San Angelo University where she studied art. There she met and married Gene Riggs of Fort Stockton, TX.In Fort Stockton, Dora Jean was active in the Annie Riggs Memorial Museum, was secretary to District Attorney, Houston Harte and County Attorney, Connell Ashley, participated in the Fort Stockton Water Carnival, The Garden Club, Fort Stockton Country Club and The 66 Dance Club. In 1963 Dora Jean moved to Midland to become secretary to the Vice President of Engineering at Drilco Oil Tools.On September 12, 1970 Dora Jean married Bill Wohlfeld, an Engineer at Drilco Oil Tools. At that time, she retired from outside employment and resumed her love of art begun at ASU under Margaret Stikes, Hugh Cabot of Tubac, AZ., Ben Konis of Amarillo, DeForrest Judd from SMU and William Earle of Connecticut. In 1974, Dora Jean and Bill purchased a cabin in Ruidoso, N.M. Thereafter, she spent summers painting with Jim Hall of Ruidoso, and Fall and Winter painting with friends at Midland College under the direction of Warren Taylor. She became an accomplished artist in oil, water color, acrylic and pastels.For 31 years, Dora Jean and Bill enjoyed the cabin and friends in Ruidoso, as well as travels to Mexico, Hawaii, Canada, Nova Scotia, Australia, South Africa, England, Europe and coast to coast in the U.S.A Baptist for many years, Dora Jean, in later life, became a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society.Dora Jean is survived by husband, Bill Wohlfeld of Midland; sons, Mel G. Riggs and wife Marsha of Midland; George E. Riggs and wife, Glenna of Ft. Stockton; Wes M. Riggs of Irving; granddaughter, Suzanne and husband Jason Liscum of Houston; grandson, Zane Riggs and wife Hailee of Midland; grandson, Casey Riggs of Fort Stockton; and great granddaughter, Vivian Liscum of Houston. She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Frazier Riggs of Fort Stockton.It was Dora Jean’s wish that she be cremated and the ashes buried next to her parents at Erath Gardens of Memory, Cemetery, Dublin HWY 377 in Stephenville, TX.
