Services for Dora Marie Phillips, 72, of Big Spring, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 17, 2004 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Ken McMeans, pastor of College Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.Dora passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2004, in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. She was born on July 8, 1932, in Mitchell County, Texas to Wilk "Shorty" and Mae Ella Yater. She married Fred Phillips on August 25, 1955 in Big Spring, Texas.Dora attended schools at Knott and Wilson, graduating from Wilson High School in 1950. After receiving her bachelor's degree in business education, she taught at Knott Schools and Runnels Junior High School.Her life was a gift to others. After teaching school several years, she left the profession to give time to her family, to her church and to helping others. She was an active member at College Baptist Church as long as her health allowed her to do so. She served in leadership roles in Sunday School, in Vacation Bible School and on various church committees. She loved to sing in the choir and was benevolent to all who needed her. Being the recipient of one of Dora's pies or cakes was a blessing. Survivors include her husband, Fred Phillips of Big Spring; two children, Marcus Phillips of Big Spring and Ilene Phillips of Lubbock; one granddaughter, Brandie Phillips of Big Spring; one niece, Dona Sinclair and husband, Jim of Big Spring; one great-nephew, Chad Sinclair of Big Spring and one great-niece, Angela Sinclair of Austin. She was preceded in death by her mother and father and two brothers, Alton Yater and Arlis Yater.
