Donnie L. Cook, 67, of Odessa, died Monday, September 10, 2012, in a Big Spring hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Circle J Cowboy Church, 300 W. 31st, Odessa, Texas 79764. Donnie was born June 22, 1945, in Memphis, Texas and married Shirley Easol in February of 1984 in Odessa. He served in the United States Navy as an Electronics Tech Specialist. He took this knowledge and began working in the Radio Broadcast field. His 30 year career in radio brought him from engineer at many stations in the area to finally owning La Caliente radio station in Odessa. He loved fishing and being around his horses. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Cook; two daughters, Dalice McMillan and husband, Trey and De-Andra Tanksley and husband, Gary all of Odessa; five granddughters, Dylan McMillan, Dannie McMillan, Dakota McMillan, Dyani Tanksley, and Demi Tanksley; four brothers, Danny Cook and wife, Rhealene, Dwight Cook, Duane Cook, and Darvis Cook; one sister, Darlene Roberts; and numerous nieces and nephews. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lillian (Grimes) Cook and two grandsons, Ethan and Xavier Tanksley.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring. Our Adult Sunday School Class is committed to praying for those who are grieving. Please accept our sincere sympathy in your loss and be assured of the prayers of the members of our class.

We have many fond Memories of Don back in the late 70's & 80"s together. He worked for Eddy at the City Dump Inc. Club on our very unusual Sound & Color System which he helped design. He was our Scuba Instructor & actually went on our "Honeymoon" to Cozumel for a week, such a great time we had. Lots of Camping & Fishing Trips to Lake Amistad together. Also did lots of other Scuba Trips together. You never saw Don not smiling , making you laugh with his jokes & stories; what stories !!! We will keep all his Family in our Prayers for God's unending strength & faith to get you through your time of mourning. He was a man that touched many lives . God Bless. Eddy & Deanna Layman

We just wanted the family to know we thought a lot of Don. My husband went and picked him up many days for coffee and breakfast with a group of men who loved swapping stories and he enjoyed the fellowship after he became unable to see well enough to drive. We shared many stories about the gkids who were the love of his life. He could always be counted on to help out where he could even till the very end. I have many fond memories of my Uncle Don, from as far back as I Can remember. I last visited with him on Sunday September 9th, 2012 For about an hour. We visited about old times when He used to sing this song to me "Hey, if you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world" ( I'm not certain of the artist) and of course his signature "Pepper Steak" absolutely the best in the world!! When the conversation was coming to an end he Instructed me to take special care of my Dad and hold my children close to my heart and told me he loved me very much and to call him more often. We didn't visit often at all and I am so grateful to have called him out of the blue and to have had that last conversation with him!!! I love you Uncle Don and wish that I would have told you thank you so much for all you did for me and my family and that I'm sorry for not staying I touch for so long. Debra

My condolences go out to the Cook family. I met Mr. Cook at the VA. He was a kind, caring and love to joke. I will miss his smile and having conversations with him. He would give me all kind of excuses just to get a steak and baked potato ( which we provided on their birthday and special holidays) Will miss you. God Bless you.

My sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the entire Cook family. I had the pleasure of visiting with Mr. Cook when I was employed at the VA and was deeply saddened to read of his passing. Oh how I wish I would have stayed only a few months longer to personally say good-bye and thank you for your service to our country. I will never forget you Mr. Cook, may you rest in peace.
