Donnette Schwisow was born November 22, 1940 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Donovan and Sadie Martin. She was a graduate of Harlingen High School and Southern Methodist University. She earned her B.A. degree in French and Spanish. She also attended the University of Mexico in Mexico City.Donnette was co-owner with Barbara Tom Jowell of Life Strategies, a seminar/consulting firm for people facing life changes. She and Ms. Jowell authored the book After He’s Gone: A Guide for Widowed and Divorced Women.Donnette was an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and served as chairwoman and coordinator of the Lay Shepherd Program. Additionally, she actively volunteered and served the community of Midland. As part of the steering committee, she helped to establish The Family Wellness Center and Hospice of Midland. She also served as president of the Junior League of Midland and The Minuet Club. She served as secretary-treasure on the board of Clearview Hospital. Additionally, she was involved with MOHRE, the Museum of the Southwest, Community and Senior Citizens Inc. and the Midland College Advisory Council. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority.Donnette loved the sports of tennis, jogging and walking. She and husband Ron were avid travelers. She gathered weekly with a group of women who came to be known as the “Lunch Bunch.” Donnette was truly a faithful and devoted wife, stepmom, grandma and friend.Donnette is preceded in death by her parents Don and Sadie Martin, her brother George Martin, her first husband Mac Williams, and her stepson, Tom Schwisow.She is survived by her husband, Ron Schwisow, her stepson Jay Schwisow and his wife Kristi, and her grandchildren Neil, Kayla, Amber, Joshua, Mercy, Melissa and her great-grandchildren Lacy, Jerusha, Norah and Emory.Memorials may be directed to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3011 West Kansas, Midland, Texas 79701 or Hospice of Midland, Inc.
