Donna King Rainbows & StarsIn these days of absence, I spend my time finding rainbows for us to share, gathering warmth from the sun to give to you.At night, I dream of your return and catch the stars and save them in my pocket, so your eyes will sparkle when you see me again. — Diane King (1962-2001) Daughter of Donna King Donna King lived a joyful and inspirational life in which she demonstrated the beauty of serenity, the power of faithfulness to family and friends, and courage to accept lifes realities while never giving up hope. Her faith in God sustained her. Donna King, who valiantly battled leukemia, died Sunday, July 9, in Midland at age 66. The poem, Rainbows and Stars, by her late daughter, Diane King, is the familys selection as a tribute to Donna King ever-faithful, loving and forthright mother, grandmother, friend and counselor. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, at Saint Anns Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Droll officiating. The Funeral Mass will be followed by rites at the Serenity Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today, July 12, in the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Midland and a wake will be held there. Donna King was born on September 26, 1939, in Cumberland, Maryland, was graduated from Allegany High School there in 1957, and was married to Donald Francis King in 1961 in Chicago, Illinois. In Midland, Donna King was program director for the Midland Court Residential Treatment Center and was an instructor at Midland College. She was a faithfully active member of the spiritual-based fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous and sought comfort and inspiration in the of the Serenity Prayer: _ _ _. Serenity PrayerGod, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;courage to change the things I can;and the wisdom to know the difference.Living one day at a time;enjoying one moment at a time;Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it.Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will.That I may be reasonably happy in this life,and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen — Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971) _ _ _Donna King was a member of Saint Anns Catholic Church, a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society that serves the poor, needy and underprivileged individuals and families in the community. She was a team member of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). Her request is that donations be made to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society Saint Anns Catholic Church Conference. Donna King took much delight in the worlds wonders from the oceans and seashores to the valleys and mountains and especially appreciated the Allegheny Mountains, the Potomac River and Appalachian Trail; the Davis Mountains in far Southwest Texas and the communities of Alpine, Fort Davis and Marfa; South Padre Island on the Texas Gulf Coast and the scenic Cloudcroft, New Mexico, area. She never tired of the worlds inspirational beauties, especially its oceans and mountains. Survivors include her son, Alexander T. King of Midland; two daughters, Laura King of Midland and Wendy King of Austin and Wendy Kings husband, Kevin Sanders of Austin; her mother, Loma Hickle of Cumberland, Maryland; her aunt, Betty Sowers of Midland; her former husband, Donald Francis King of Chicago; three grandchildren, Michael Alexander Garcia, son of Laura King and Michael Garcia of Midland, and Teagan King and Landon King, children of Alexander T. King and Amy King of Midland. Donna King was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane King; her father, John Randolph Dick Jr.; and her stepfather, Charles Hickle.,
